Click on one of the tabs above to view our database of student samples. All samples are moderated to ensure that all responses are for past AP exams or practice questions only. Any student with an account can upload samples provided they have an account, which other students, or educators, can download. If you are an individual teacher or are a student, you can access all resources on the site for free without payment.
The Samples Browser allows you to browse AP FRQ responses using a variety of filters. Examples of filters include:
Filter by Score: filter samples based on total score, or based on if certain criteria were met on the scoring rubric.
Filter by Unit or Time Period: filter samples based on content assessed, with options including by time period or by unit number(s).
More filters will be added to APSamples.com in the near future.
The LEQ requires students to compose an essay that demonstrates a historical argument, requiring historical thinking and reasoning skills from students. Samples listed in our database include the prompt and the pages uploaded from students, as LEQs do not have stimuli attached on AP exams.
Scoring
LEQ scores can be a range of 0-6 points, with 6 being the highest possible grade, and zero indicating on effort. LEQ scores, unlike DBQ scores, are less unique (overall, there are less possible rubrics that can be given), as most of the points are either given or not, whereas on the DBQ students can choose ways of sourcing and providing evidence.
